With more than one-third of adults and 17 percent of children classified as obese in America, interest in weight reduction surgeries has remained steady. But within New Jersey, doctors said public interest grew after Gov. Chris Christie confirmed he had undergone the lap band procedure at NYU Langone Medical Center’s surgery center in February. Christie said he chose to have the surgery after he turned 50 in September 2012 because he wanted to see his children grow up. He dismissed speculation he wanted to slim down for a presidential run in 2016. Christie has declined to reveal how many pounds he has shed, but last week he said on “CBS Sunday Morning” he is halfway to his weight-loss goal.

Weight loss led to reduction in inflammation
The researchers measured levels of C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, interleukin-6, leukocyte and neutrophil in 439 women.
